Onondaga County Office for Aging's Caregiver Services will offer a session on Advance Care Planning. In this class, experts in elder law will emphasize the importance of having a conversation with the appropriate persons in your life about creating a well-coordinated plan to help you as you age or in the event of loss of capacity to make decisions.  They will explain the documents that are available to serve as directives including a will, a health care proxy, a power of attorney and a living will. Presenter will be Christine Dettor.

ReZone Syracuse Public Meeting

The ReZone Syracuse team will host the first meeting in a series of public meetings, Wednesday, June 5, in the City Hall Commons Atrium. The project team will present the final draft documents and discuss how they plan to accomplish the ReZone Syracuse project goals, identify key improvements and changes, and discuss the next steps in the approval process. Additional public meetings are being scheduled during the weeks of June 10 and 17.

17th Annual Duck Race to End Racism

The Duck Race to End Racism will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at the Syracuse Inner Harbor. This annual event is a free family festival that brings together people from all over the community. It features a huge line-up of children’s entertainment, cooperative games, face painting, community information booths and duck races galore. It is a celebration with people of many colors, many different backgrounds and who come from many different walks of life, uniting to demonstrate what the world would look like if racism did not exist. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $5 each to participate in the general public Community Duck Race featuring many prizes and gifts.

Movie Matinee

Syracuse Juneteenth Festival

Saturday’s event will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the Victory Parade from the Dunbar Center to Clinton Square. Throughout that day, local vendors and community resources will be set up. The Gospel Showcase will begin at 1 p.m. and R&B and soul music starts at 4 p.m. The headliner is Keith Washington, an R&B vocalist best-known for his single “Kissing You.”

Manny Breland Celebration

Central Technical High School alumni are paying tribute to Manny Breland, basketball coach and educator, during a special celebration held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at Bethany Baptist Church. The Keynote address will be given by Billy McBride, assistant athletic director at Amherst College. Alumni cheerleaders and basketball players will also be recognized. Light refreshments will be available. Cost is $10. Event is open to the public and tickets may be purchased at the door or to purchase early, call (315) 474-3746.

NYS DOT Open House On I-81 Project

OnCenter 800 S. State St. , Syracuse, NY, United States

State transportation officials will hold an open house on June 18 to discuss plans to tear down a portion of Interstate 81 and reroute highway traffic around the eastern edge of the city. The open house will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Oncenter. People will be able to talk with various state officials and representatives about multiple aspects of the project -- from traffic flow to real estate information to construction. There will be a formal presentation at 6 p.m.

Walt Shepperd Retirement Party

The Media Unit team will throw the group's executive producer of 43 years Walt Shepperd a retirement party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at the Palace Theatre. The party will be hosted by local musician, city councilor and Media Unit alum Joe Driscoll. Additional alums will perform and share memories of their time working with Shepperd. Tickets are a suggested $15 donation, which will include hors d'oeuvres with a cash bar available.
