Syracuse Juneteenth Festival

Saturday’s event will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the Victory Parade from the Dunbar Center to Clinton Square. Throughout that day, local vendors and community resources will be set up. The Gospel Showcase will begin at 1 p.m. and R&B and soul music starts at 4 p.m. The headliner is Keith Washington, an R&B vocalist best-known for his single “Kissing You.”

Manny Breland Celebration

Central Technical High School alumni are paying tribute to Manny Breland, basketball coach and educator, during a special celebration held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at Bethany Baptist Church. The Keynote address will be given by Billy McBride, assistant athletic director at Amherst College. Alumni cheerleaders and basketball players will also be recognized. NYS DOT Open House On I-81 Project

OnCenter 800 S. State St. , Syracuse, NY, United States

State transportation officials will hold an open house on June 18 to discuss plans to tear down a portion of Interstate 81 and reroute highway traffic around the eastern edge of the city. The open house will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Oncenter. People will be able to talk with various state officials and representatives about multiple aspects of the project -- from traffic flow to real estate information to construction. There will be a formal presentation at 6 p.m.

Walt Shepperd Retirement Party

The Media Unit team will throw the group's executive producer of 43 years Walt Shepperd a retirement party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at the Palace Theatre. The party will be hosted by local musician, city councilor and Media Unit alum Joe Driscoll. Additional alums will perform and share memories of their time working with Shepperd. Tickets are a suggested $15 donation, which will include hors d'oeuvres with a cash bar available.
