On Tuesday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m., the project team will hold its first virtual public hearing on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the I-81 Viaduct Project, a document that discloses the social, economic and environmental effects of the project’s alternatives.

On Wednesday, Aug. 18, the project team will conduct two in-person public hearings on the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration's Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the I-81 Viaduct Project, a document that discloses the social, economic and environmental effects of the project’s alternatives. The project team will also hold an open house that will include display boards, interactive videos and plenty of staff to ask questions. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. at the OnCenter, located on 800 S. State St. The open house will be from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The NYCLU kindly asks that you wear a mask if you are not vaccinated. Meetings will occur every Thursday in August. Refreshments will be served. Mary Nelson will host her annual Back-to-School Giveaway & BBQ from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at the corner of South Salina Street and Wood Avenue. The event will feature live entertainment, food, game area and vendors.
Join The Stand as winners of this Summer's Photo Contest are announced on the premier night of The Summer Photo Contest Screening with the Urban Video Project. Doors open for this pre-event at 7 p.m. Attendees will gather at Wildflowers Armory's downstairs event space where prizes will be awarded to winning community photographers. The event will also include tabling, a raffle for attendees, fundraising for a new high school Journalism Lab being coordinated by the Syracuse Press Club and all-around fun. For the 7 p.m. event, enter the building on the Fayette Street side, 217 S. Salina St.
The Urban Video Project will screen winning images from The Stand's summer Photo Contest at the Everson museum plaza starting at dusk each evening from Sunday through Wednesday, Aug. 23 to 25. The screening is free and open to the public. This outdoor exhibit highlights winning images from the 2021 Summer Photo Contest participants.
The Department of Transportation will host a series of eight neighborhood meetings to discuss the I-81 project at locations throughout the city of Syracuse and surrounding suburbs. These smaller-scale meetings will take place in local schools and have DOT staff on hand to explain the project and respond to questions.
