The city of Syracuse rose from humble beginnings to become the fifth most populous city in New York state, and grew as a result of the Erie Canal and the industry it spurred. The city no longer has the Erie Canal, but it is still home to the only remaining weighlock from the 19th century waterway. Join The Erie Canal Museum staff for a Facebook Live program by Curator Ashley Maready, detailing Syracuse's early history through its canal years to the present day. It's free and open to all. Onondaga Historical Association's Downtown Syracuse location is a lot bigger than what you may have seen. So much of its downtown building is collections and storage. Tour the exhibits, offices, collections and special storage with OHA's Curator of History Bob Searing virtually at 1:30 p.m. every Friday.
