Curatorial Concerns in Jazz Community Master Class will be offered by musicians Gerald Veasley, musical polymath, and Jazmin Ghent, a fast-rising female saxophonist/vocalist/educator, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at the Community Folk Art Center, 805 E. Genesee St. Veasley played in West Philly RnB bands in his teens and entered the international marketplace as bassist for the legendary Joe Zawinul, playing in The Zawinul Syndicate from 1988 to 1995. A successful recording and touring career followed. Ghent was voted “2017’s Best New Smooth Jazz Artist” and awarded the prestigious “2019 NAACP IMAGE AWARD” for Outstanding Jazz Album. Join the CNY Young Naturalists on the first Wednesday of the month to learn about local wildlife and their habitats. Session open to children ages 5 to 12. Meets in the KidSpace, Level 2.

The 2019-20 season will continue at 8 a.m. March 5 in a new location, Room 016 in the Nancy Cantor Warehouse. The room is directly off of the Fayette Street entrance or a short walk down the stairs or elevator ride from the Washington Street entrance. March 5 will welcome Matt Vincent, partnership specialist with the U.S. Census Bureau, to speak about the upcoming census count and its importance.

Learn about free health screenings and services from a variety of local health organizations including ACR Health, Helio Health and members of the National Black Leadership Commission on Health. Treatment for drug addiction, recovery services, housing and prevention methods are some of the topics covered by these nonprofit organizations. Meets on Level 1.

A timely conversation on bail reform will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at the Community Folk Art Center, 805 E. Genesee St. This free event will feature a panel and roundtable discussions. Refreshments will be served; reception begins prior to discussion at 5:30. Paid parking is available.

Staff from the Syracuse Chapter of Easterseals NY will be on hand to assist veterans in obtaining free services for those who are disabled, homeless or at risk of losing housing and facing other barriers to employment. Open to all veterans. Meets in Level 1.

Learn the skills that can help you get a job in the manufacturing field. A certified instructor will teach soldering skills as well as important safety information for the manufacturing workplace. Attendees will also learn techniques for crafting one's resume and interviewing that will make employers more likely to hire. Participants who complete all four sessions will have the opportunity to interview for employment with a local manufacturer. Registration is required. Classes are limited to 10.
