“Salam” is a feature-length documentary about the Nobel prize winning Pakistani physicist, Abdus Salam. The film reveals the extraordinary life of Salam who was denied opportunities to work in his home country because he was a member of the "wrong" community. The film will be screened locally at 7 p.m. Friday, March 29, in the Newhouse School's Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium.

On Saturday, March 30, an open house and sale will be held where everything from memorabilia to furniture to production equipment from The Media Unit must go. Visitors are invited from noon to 4 p.m. to make an offer on items that remain at the studio, located at 327 Montgomery St. Executive Producer Walt Shepperd, who is set to retire, predicts the day will turn into a party with many Media Unit alum from past years in attendance. Community is welcome.

All are welcome to the free staging of the play "Salt City Abolitionists" with characters the Rev. Samuel May and Caroline Loguen. Syracuse was a center of abolitionism in the 19th Century and was watched by the entire country. Join two of the Salt City’s crusaders for freedom, the Rev. Samuel May (of the May Memorial Church) and Caroline Loguen (who with her husband, the Rev. Jermaine Loguen, assisted many on their way to freedom). Learn about, and become part of, an antislavery meeting of the day. "Salt City Abolitionists" is a play written by the Onondaga Historical Association.

A class for those who currently care for older or disabled persons or may become caregivers in the future will be offered by Aurora of CNY from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at its office. This class is open to the public as an educational forum to explore the challenges of living with or caring for those with vision and/or hearing impairments; the class will include assistive device demonstration, discussion of Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma and Diabetic Retinopathy as well as a question and answer session. CNY Fair Housing will hosts its Eighth Annual Bird Houses for Fair Housing Auction & Fundraiser April 4 at the SKY Armory. Evening will feature bidding wars on uniquely made birdhouses designed and decorated by local artists, organization and celebrities and bird themed cocktails. A cocktails and hors d’oeuvres reception will start at 5:30 p.m. followed by the live auction at 6:30 p.m.

"Mary Poppins Returns" will screen. In London, a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, along with Michael's three children, are visited by Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.

Join Dr. Marcelle Haddix (Syracuse University’s School of Education Faculty member) and RYT200 of ZenG Yoga, for a yoga class that will center on breathing, movement and meditation for the mind, body and soul. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat (limited mats will be available). Class is suitable for beginners.

Planned Parenthood educator Mallory will distribute brochures, fact sheets and give-a-ways, answer questions and talk to teens one-on-one about family planning, sexual health, sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS, minors’ rights and much more. All materials include information about where to access low-cost reproductive health care. If appropriate, referrals will be made to partner agencies for additional service needs.
