The monthly F.O.C.U.S. Forum, held the third Friday each month from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. at Syracuse City Hall Commons, features an expert that will present a topic pertinent to the CNY community with an opportunity for questions and answers from the audience. This forum will look at how CNY has made a shift to a knowledge economy from big manufacturing, examining the gaps in skilled labor, employment and community this left. A discussion about the Future of Work with Darco Mfg. talent manager and study co-chair Melissa Menon and Michael Melara, director of Catholic Charities in Onondaga County, will be held July 21st. All are welcome.
Light of Syracuse, Inc. will host three free Friday movie nights in July: July 7, 21 and 28 (raindates set for July 13 and 27 and Aug. 3). All movies are family-friendly and the featured films will include: "Beauty and the Beast," "Queen of Katwe" and "Jungle Book." Event begins at 7 p.m. and movie starts by 8 p.m. and is held in the Bethany Baptist Church parking lot. For less than a dollar, enjoy a hotdog, beverage and popcorn. Bring chairs. A movie will be screened Friday, July 21, at Ward Park. Bring the entire family and friends. Movie begins at dusk so make sure to bring lawn chair and or blanket. Mosquito repellent recommended. Event hosted by Syracuse Salt of the Earth Ministries, which will give out free popcorn and Bibles.
The Stand's Eighth annual South Side Photo Walk will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 22. Participants will meet at the South Side Innovation Center, 2610 S. Salina St., where the event will open with a photo lesson by professional photographers Kate Collins, who is a photo and video manager at syracuse.com, and Marilu Lopez Fretts, who is a freelance and multimedia photographer (mlfphotography.com). After the walk, all participants will share their photos, and the best shots will be published in the September print issue of The Stand. This event is free and open to all ages of any skill level. 100 Black Men of Syracuse, Inc. in collaboration with Black Nurses Rock of Syracuse to host the 2017 Health and Wellness Lecture Series. The July lecture will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, July 24, at the South Side Innovation Center. The topic will be "Mental Health and the Black Community."
