Mothers Against Gun Violence will host a candlelight vigil from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, in Clinton Square. Ed Mitchell Jr from Team Angel will be the event's MC; Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens will serve as keynote speaker. The evening will also include performances by the Elks Drumline, Makayla Goers, Mobetta, Truth Speaker and Zachary Jones.
The world of reading comes alive with this fun and educational program that will bring attendees face-to-face with exciting zoo animals. Get hands-on with the zoo’s one-of-a-kind animal artifacts. Learn how you can make a difference to wildlife. Interested attendees must register by calling the library at (315) 435-3395. Event made possible in part by a state grant secured by Sen. John A. DeFrancisco.
Event will open with youth parade and include educational, health and resource vendors, entertainment, games and food. Backpacks will be given out to registered youth.
Free to attend; students must register in advance to receive a backpack filled with school supplies.
Summer readers have read and learned so much all summer long. The library wants to say Congrats! All young readers are invited to relax and celebrate with a party. Library staff will hand out certificates, serve refreshments and raffle-off prizes.
Come celebrate the 2018 South Side Photo Walk during a free, public reception at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at The Link Gallery at the Nancy Cantor Warehouse, 350 W. Fayette St. Thirty images taken by participants of The Stand's 2018 Photo Walk will be on display throughout the month of September at The Link Gallery. The reception will feature free refreshments and a chance to meet event organizers and participants while viewing these stunning images. We'll be selling The Stand T-shirts at the reception and accepting orders for image reprints.
The Link Gallery is accessible to wheelchair users via a street-level power-assist door on West Fayette Street.

Celebrate National Gospel Music Heritage Month in September with Joan Hillsman from 2 to 4:30 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 8, at the library. There will be music by the Syracuse Chapter Gospel Music Workshop of America (SGMWA) along with the winners of the Harriet Tubman Essay competition. Tyler Art Gallery at SUNY Oswego in Syracuse will host an exhibit of artwork that examines and reflects upon Interstate 81 in Syracuse, which will be demolished in the next few years and rebuilt in some manner.
The Urban Fiction Book Club – Meet and Greet will meet for the first time at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at the library. This book club is for readers who love to read very enticing, hard to tear myself away Urban Fiction. This club will read one book a month, and the members will vote on the next book to read.
This is an annual event that provides children of all ages a chance to come and enjoy themselves, while leaving with a free book(s). Event will include bounce house, popcorn machine, kickball game, face painting,
