Funk Fest 2k17 will be held from 4 to 10 p.m. Sept. 2 at the New York State Fair at the Experience Stage and will feature Steve Arrington, former lead singer of Slave. Event is free with paid admission to the NYS Fair and will include additional performances by regional artists.
Nutrition educator Holly Adams from the Food Bank of Central New York will present a program on healthy eating on a budget, easy ways to eat more produce and meal planning. This program will take place at Central’s first-floor Community Room.
Interviewing - Beyond the Basics with CNY Works will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at Hazard Branch Library, 1620 W. Genesee St. A representative from CNY Works will discuss the important “do’s and don’ts” when interviewing for a job. Register in advance by calling (315) 435-5326.
Meet the artist of this month's art exhibit, "The Billboards We Make Of Ourselves by Andrea Hall," at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at Beauchamp Branch Library. Hall's work consists of photographs of T-shirts that are meant to show the eclecticism of human thought and beliefs in the 21st century. She believes wearing a T-shirt or piece of clothing that directly states what we believe is an opportunity to inspire the wearer to action.
Tomorrow's Neighborhood Today (TNT) Southside in association with Soul A La Carte will present a Gala in the Garden at the Brady Farm on Sept. 9. Event will feature a four-course meal featuring fresh, seasonal ingredients harvested from The Brady Farm and musical entertainment.
The Tomorrow's Neighborhoods Today Area 3 Planning Council meets regularly on the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at the South Side Innovation Center, 2610 S. A SUN member meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the Brady Faith Center. Ed Michalenko, president of the Onondaga Environmental Institute, will be the guest speaker to talk about a proposal he wrote for Lower Onondaga Creek.
The Block Blitz is an annual community revitalization event organized by Home HeadQuarters that brings together homeowners, community partners, skilled laborers and volunteers who donate their time and talents to help cleanup, landscape, paint and repair as many homes as possible in a single day in a high-need neighborhood. This year's event is set for Sept. 14 in Syracuse's South Side. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the 100-200 blocks of West Borden Avenue and will include the 200 block of West Beard and some of Landon avenues.
The National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS, Inc. will offer safe sex kits, education materials and referrals to additional services. Note the SRC will be open to the public during this event and the food pantry will be open. Event held in collaboration with the Onondaga Health Department (PrEP).
