Lego literacy helps children make the connection between building structures and building words and sentences. They’re the perfect tool because children learn how to “stick” details onto a basic sentence much as they link Legos together. Join this Lego Literacy event and help your child discover that letters are like Lego blocks; put them together to make words and sentences.
The Stages of Grieving Workshop will explore three stages of grieving: Anticipatory Grief, Grief and New Beginnings (how to move on from grief). Although each person experiences grief in their own way, there are universal messages all share. For those who have a loved one with dementia, the
grieving process often begins long before the person has actually passed away. Participants will have an opportunity to look at ways we all process grief as well as discussing their own experiences.

Zoo to You is back for the 2017 summer reading program. The world of reading will come alive with this fun and educational program that will bring you face-to-face with exciting zoo animals. Get hands-on with the zoo’s one-of-a-kind animal artifacts, ask a professional zoo educator your animal questions, and learn how you can make a difference to wildlife. Light of Syracuse, Inc. will host three free Friday movie nights in July: July 7, 21 and 28 (raindates set for July 13 and 27 and Aug. 3). All movies are family-friendly and the featured films will include: "Beauty and the Beast," "Queen of Katwe" and "Jungle Book." Event begins at 7 p.m. and movie starts by 8 p.m. and is held in the Bethany Baptist Church parking lot. For less than a dollar, enjoy a hotdog, beverage and popcorn. Bring chairs.
Official launch workshop for the City of Syracuse's Salt City Mapping will be held July 8. Salt City Mapping is one of many strategies that the Department of Neighborhood and Business Development is pursuing with grant funds awarded by the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) under their Zombie and Vacant Properties Initiative. The Salt City Mapping project will use a mobile surveying app to ask residents for feedback on blighted structures in their neighborhoods and will help prioritize city efforts to reduce and remediate blight. The Syracuse Alumnae chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. will host its Inaugural Golden Alert. The goal of this session is to allow Syracuse Youth (between the ages of 11 to 17) to discuss solutions to make the Syracuse Community safer. Participants will discuss solutions with local leaders in the Onondaga County Justice System. The Golden Alert will provide a safe place to ask questions, build relationships, educate about juvenile justice and make partnerships with community leaders.
