Food Truck Frenzy

Onondaga Community College campus 4585 West Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse, NY, United States

A total of 11 food trucks will come to the Onondaga Community College campus two Thursdays in October -- 15th & 22nd — for Food Truck Frenzy. Food trucks will be in parking lost 13, which is directly in front of the SRC Arena. All proceeds will benefit the OCC Foundation’s Lazer Response Fund which supports OCC students who face unprecedented challenges due to COVID-19.

The Food Truck Frenzy lineup for Oct. 22 includes: Angry Pig BBQ, Cluck n Burger, Bob Barkers, Naan Ya Business and Skippys Ice Cream. Also, American Dining Creations will be there both days serving apple treats and cider.

Anyone coming to campus must go through the college's screening process while still in their vehicles. Screening includes a no-touch temperature check and a series of Covid-related questions. Masks and social distancing are required on the OCC campus.

New Foster Parent Orientation

Join The Unaccompanied Refugee Minor (URM) program for an orientation session to learn about the URM foster care program. Space will be limited to allow for social distancing. All interested participants should contact URM's home finder Cathy Southwick to register in advance by calling (315) 424-1845. Participants will learn about what makes the URM program unique and what sets Toomey apart from other local foster care agencies. Interested participants will also be given an application if they decide that they would like to pursue foster parent certification.

Sankofa Food Share

The Sankofa Wellness and Resource Center presents a bi-weekly food share on Wednesdays. Organizers will provide dry goods (rice, beans etc.) and fresh produce, and items will be distributed utilizing social distancing guidelines. Photo ID is preferred. Pre-registration is not required. Insurance Considerations for Small Businesses Post COVID-19

SCORE, a nonprofit association dedicated to educating entrepreneurs and helping small businesses start, grow and succeed nationwide, local chapter will offer mentoring and advice to small businesses during a special virtual session Oct. 30. 

Attendees will learn what you need to know about insurance when starting a small business and what changes existing businesses need to make during this period of the pandemic.

A SCORE expert will cover all the types of insurance needed for new business and the changes necessitated during this trying time for an existing business. Coverage will include: Liability Insurance, Property Insurance, Worker's Compensation Insurance and Medical Insurance.

Free Family-Friendly Trick-or-Treat Drive-Thru

The Southwest YMCA and Onondaga Community College invite families to a free trick-or-treat drive-thru on Halloween from 10 a.m. to Noon on the OCC campus. Attendees will drive-thru, and volunteers will distribute  treats. Cars will process around the road which loops campus, then drive into the parking lot in front of the Southwest YMCA and SRC Arena where there will be a photo booth and plenty of treats for attendees. Families and cars are encouraged to dress up and mask up. Anyone who wants to attend is encouraged to register in advance at http://www.sunyocc.edu/trickortreat.

Sandwich Saturday

We Rise Above the Streets Recovery Outreach 404 Oak St., Syracuse, NY, United States

We Rise Above The Streets will resume servicing Syracuse's homeless friends Saturday, Nov. 7. There are some new social distancing and safety rules the group must implemented to keep all healthy. Organizers will take temperatures and all volunteers must wear a mask as well as practice social distancing. Also hand sanitizer will be available.
