The Syracuse Poster Project will unveil its 18th annual poster series from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at City Hall Commons, 201 E. Washington St. The Syracuse Poster Project brings together community poets and artists to create an annual series of poetry illustrations for the city’s poster panels. Each year, writers from throughout the community submit haikus about downtown, the city or the nearby countryside. Artists then create posters based on the haiku of their choice. The Project selects the top posters and displays them along Salina and Warren streets, beginning in April. For 2019, after years of working primarily with Syracuse University illustration students, the Project launched an open call for artists. It also initiated participation from local ad firms, starting this year with a submission from Mower Inc. The open call drew submissions from 34 artists. A five-person panel then selected 18 posters for production: first-, second- and third-place posters, and 15 runners up. The resulting series reflects a wealth of Syracuse attributes, from canal history, indigenous culture and the natural environment to the theater community, apple orchards and transportation systems. "Angels in the Outfield" will screen. Young foster child Roger and his friend J.P. love to sneak into baseball games of the hopelessly dreadful California Angels. Still in limited contact with his widower father, Roger asks when they will be a family again. His father replies sarcastically, "I'd say when the Angels win the pennant." Taking his father's words literally, Roger prays for God to help the Angels win.

Join Dr. Marcelle Haddix (Syracuse University’s School of Education Faculty member) and RYT200 of ZenG Yoga, for a yoga class that will center on breathing, movement and meditation for the mind, body and soul.
