Bone Marrow Drive for Baby King

The Elks Lodge #1104 will host a bone marrow drive from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 11, as part of its annual family day in honor of 2-year old Baby King, who was born with CD40, a hereditary immune deficiency that without a bone marrow transplant will become fatal. The most likely match is someone of your same race. There is currently no match for Baby King on the Be the Match Registry. Annually, 12,000 individuals with blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, sickle cell and other life-threatening illnesses are looking for a bone marrow donor match to save their lives. Light the Night 315, a March for Unity & Restoration, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 13. Attendees will gather at Lexington Park on Lexington Avenue and East Genesee Street. The march will begin promptly at 6:50 p.m. The purpose of the Light the Night marches is to begin to engage, unite and restore the community of Syracuse. This is not a typical anti-violence march but a march for positivity, restoration and healing.

This program will provide an overview of Medicare for people becoming eligible for the insurance program. The session is presented by HIICAP (Health Insurance Information Counseling Assistance Program). Topics covered include: Medicare Parts A & B, Medicare Advantage plans (Part C), Medicare Prescription Drug plans (Part D), Medigap Supplemental plans, EPIC (Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Program) Subsidy Assistance and more. South Side Photo Walk

The Stand annual South Side Photo Walk will be held Saturday, July 18, beginning at 10 a.m. at the South Side Innovation Center. A Photo Walk is a social photography event where photographers get together to explore a neighborhood, shoot photos and practice their skills. Participants will follow a path through the South Side, leaving from the South Side Innovation Center. Attendees will take photos of the neighborhood and neighbors along the way. The event will open with a short lesson by professional photographer and multimedia producer Marilu Lopez Fretts. After the walk, participants will share their photos with the group and receive feedback. The day's best shots will be printed in the September issue of The Stand. Parkinson’s Presentation
