Community Ice Cream Social

A community "Ice Cream Social and House Party" will be held 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, on the South Side section of the 2nd District. This will be hosted by Aggie Lane at her home located at 340 Midland Ave. The evening will also include a brief presentation by the Green Party candidate for the 2nd District seat, Frank Cetera, followed by residents making comments on how to improve the neighborhood.

Meeting on Tiny Homes Project

A community meeting is set for 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the Southwest Community Center to further discuss a request from A Tiny Homes for Good of the County Legislature to donate county land on West Kennedy Street to the group. A Tiny Home for Good will discuss its proposal to build four units on county land at the corner of South Avenue and West Kennedy Street. The meeting is hosted by Common Councilors Monica Williams and Khalid Bey, and moderated by Sharon Owens, CEO of the SWCC, in an effort to hear more comments from residents.

Asian Elephant Extravaganza

Asian Elephant Extravaganza will be held from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the zoo. Event is free with paid admission or zoo membership. A free Back to School & Community Celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at Skiddy Park, sponsored by REACH Community Relief International. The following community organizations will also be on site to register students for free youth programming offered throughout the community: YWCA Girl’s Inc,./STYA (Successfully Transitioning Youth to Adolescence), Catholic Charities – Vincent House, Pretty Girls Rock, Saturday Academy with 100 Black Men of Syracuse, Delta Youth Initiatives, Le Moyne College Upward Bound and Mercy Works (iCan Robotics Program, Teen Tech, SYNERGY, Passport 2 Vision, Vision Velocity). This event is open for the entire community.
