Outdoor Film: ‘Despicable Me 2’

Beauchamp Branch Library 2111 S. Salina St., Syracuse , NY, United States

An outdoor film festival will be held Thursdays in July showing free family-friendly movies. The films start at dusk (approx. 8:30 p.m.) at the new Sankofa Park, located directly behind Beauchamp Branch Library.

Films to be shown include:

July 16: "Despicable Me 2"
July 23: "Get on Up"

South Side Photo Walk

South Side Innovation Center 2610 S. Salina St., Syracuse, NY, United States

The Stand annual South Side Photo Walk will be held Saturday, July 18, beginning at 10 a.m. at the South Side Innovation Center. A Photo Walk is a social photography event where photographers get together to explore a neighborhood, shoot photos and practice their skills. Participants will follow a path through the South Side, leaving from the South Side Innovation Center. Attendees will take photos of the neighborhood and neighbors along the way. The event will open with a short lesson by professional photographer and multimedia producer Marilu Lopez Fretts. After the walk, participants will share their photos with the group and receive feedback. The day's best shots will be printed in the September issue of The Stand. Parkinson’s Presentation

The Onondaga County Department of Adult and Long Term Care Services, Office for Aging will offer a free Parkinson’s Presentation by Dr. Dragos Mihaila, Neurologist with Upstate Medical University, at 6 p.m. July 23 at The Hearth at Greenpoint. The presentation, which is open to the public, will be on Deep Brain Stimulation, a surgical procedure used to treat a variety of disabling neurological symptoms, most commonly those of Parkinson’s disease, such as: Tremor, Rigidity, Stiffness, Fatigue, Slowed Movement, Walking Problems. Public Meeting on Sale of W. Kennedy Site

A public discussion with director of Tiny Homes for Good will be held at 5 p.m. July 29 at Southwest Community Center. This meeting is to discuss the sale for one dollar of a vacant lot on the South Side. The lot is owned by Onondaga County and located at 425-427 W. Kennedy St. The meeting will be hosted by the South Side legislator Monica Williams.
