The Onondaga County Chess Championship will be held Sunday, March 6, at Southside Academy Charter School, 2200 Onondaga Creek Blvd. Registration begins at noon. Entry fee is $10 early or $15 at the door; refreshments will be sold during the competitions. Students and school teams in grades K-12 will play 4 rounds of chess to win trophies and medals. First round begins at 12:30 p.m. School teams require a minimum of two players in one age group: K-4, K-6 or K-12. Students must be with an adult. Human Library Event

Beauchamp Branch Library will host a A Human Library from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 16. The event is a way for people to reach out and connect with individuals in their community with whom they might not normally interact. Visitors to the library have an opportunity during the event to borrow and engage in conversation with a Human Book, a person that has volunteered to tell their story. Readers have the opportunity to participate in one-on-one or small group conversations with Human Books to ask questions and to learn about another’s experiences. Readers check out Human Books for 30 minutes. Books can be checked out at the event or in advance at the front desk. The event is free and open to all.
