Black History Month Commemorative Lecture by Alicia Garza will be offered at Syracuse University's Hendricks Chapel at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23. Garza is a writer and community organizer who advocates for Black people and queer communities, fights against racial profiling and police violence and campaigns for improved working conditions for all underserved minority communities. The Onondaga County Chess Championship will be held Sunday, March 6, at Southside Academy Charter School, 2200 Onondaga Creek Blvd. Registration begins at noon. Entry fee is $10 early or $15 at the door; refreshments will be sold during the competitions. Students and school teams in grades K-12 will play 4 rounds of chess to win trophies and medals. First round begins at 12:30 p.m. School teams require a minimum of two players in one age group: K-4, K-6 or K-12. Students must be with an adult.
