City-Wide Celebration

Various Locations

A city-wide Halloween celebration will be held at various city venues to provide save and fun options for local youth. Festivities will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. and this is a nut-free event where all candy will be nut-free. Event sites include: Barnabas Center, Boys & Girls Club-East, Delaware School, Dr. King School, Edward Smith Elementary School, Franklin School, Northeast Community Center, McKinely Brighton School and Southwest Community Center. Writing Our Lives 2015 Youth Writers Conference

The Writing Our Lives 2015 Youth Writers Conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Danforth Middle School. With this year's theme #BeFree, middle and high school students, ages 12-18, from the greater Syracuse community will participate in writing workshops with local writers, poets, artists and community educators on spoken word poetry, songwriting, comic creations, fiction and much more. The Skä•noñh Grand Opening

Skä•noñh Center 6680 Onondaga Lake Parkway, Liverpool, NY, United States

The Skä•noñh – Great Law of Peace Center will have its Grand Opening to the public with a festival-like atmosphere on Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Center will be a hub of activity as visitors will have their first opportunity to experience the culture of the Haudenosaunee like never before. The brand new exhibits will explore the subjects of Skä•noñh, the Thanksgiving Address, the Creation Story, the Great Law of Peace, Native American/European contact and Haudenosaunee contributions to the American way of life. The centerpiece of each exhibit section will be an educational film that features the Haudenosaunee people explaining their heritage and values as they have been passed down from generation to generation. The day will be filled with programs and activities including a book discussion, artist demonstrations, and native music and food. There is no admission fee on Saturday and all are welcome.

Building Bridges

Building Bridges, a special workshop at Beauchamp Branch Library, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28. The session is free and open to all. Youth can learn how bridges defy gravity and hold you up, learn why some hold trucks and trains but others wobble when you walk on them.
