Southside Tomorrow’s Neighborhoods Today Meeting

The Southside Tomorrow's Neighborhoods Today (TNT) will hold a community meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, at the South Side Innovation Center. Following meeting updates, 4th District Commo Councilor Latoya Allen will moderate a panel, "New Year New Chair," with Assemblywoman Pamela Hunter, Sen. Rachel May, 16th District County Legislator Vernon Williams, Jr., 34d District Common Councilor Chol Majok, Councilor-at-Large Michael Greene and Syracuse City School Board Commissioner Tamika Barnett.

Adult Reading & Discussion Forum

Cannon Street Community Center 515 Cannon St., Syracuse

A Reading and Discussion Forum will be held Friday evenings through Feb. 7. The topic will be Maya Angelou's "The Sweetness of Charity." Future sessions will examine excerpts from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; W.E.B. DuBois, and more. There is no need to read ahead of time, just come with an open mind. Sessions will begin at 6 p.m. at the Cannon Street Community Center, 515 Cannon St., and are being offered by FORCE, Focusing Our Resources for Community Enlightenment. The Hip Hop Nutcracker

The Hip Hop Nutcracker will perform one show in Syracuse at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at the Oncenter Crouse Hinds Theater, 411 Montgomery St. Directed and choreographed by Jennifer Weber, this remixed production of Tchaikovsky’s classic music is performed by a cast of a dozen all-star dancers, a DJ, a violinist and MC Kurtis Blow, one of Hip Hop’s founding fathers. Tickets range from $37 to $67; additional fees may apply. Tickets will go on sale 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, online at Ticketmaster.com or in person at the Solvay Bank Box Office at The Oncenter, 760 S. State St.
