Tomorrow's Neighborhoods Today (TNT) Southside will host Common Council Candidate Forum from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 31. All candidates running for the Syracuse Common Council 3rd and 4th District, At-large and President have been invited. Questions will be asked of all the candidates with each having an opportunity to answer first, but all answering the same question. The audience will be allowed to submit written questions during the forum. All questions will be asked by the moderator. Each response will have a 1-minute time limit and each candidate will have a 2-minute closing statement. This forum is not intended to be a debate between candidates or between the audience and the candidates, but rather an opportunity for community members to hear each candidate’s position on topics of importance. Teen Summer Employment Information Meeting

A representative from CNY Works will discuss summer job opportunities for teens. Learn basic tips on getting jobs, places you can apply and general information that you can use to enhance your employability. This is a great chance to learn about the Summer Youth Employment Program offered by CNY Works and Onondaga County. For ages 13-19.

Paint the City – The Vacant Mural Project

South Presbyterian Church 2110 S Salina St., Syracuse, NY, United States

The Greater Syracuse Land Bank is implementing a project that organizes students and volunteers to paint murals on the plywood that is used to secure windows and doors of vacant houses. The purpose of the Land Bank is to return vacant or underutilized properties to productive use. To date, the Land Bank has acquired over 1,200 properties and currently owns over 800 properties in Syracuse. The Land Bank will host a weekend painting event open to the public on June 3. The community as a whole will have the opportunity to participate in brightening up the city. Paint, plywood and a place to paint will be provided. Completed boards will be located on Land Bank properties throughout the city.

Bike for Brady

Brady Farm 150 Ford Ave., Syracuse, NY, United States

The Bike for Brady (and walk, too) will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 4, starting at the Brady Farm, 150 Ford Ave. The fourth annual community bike ride supports the Brady Faith Center programs, including Pedal to Possibilities. This summer, a 3K walk has been added so all can participate. Bike rides include: 10-, 20- and 40-mile treks through the streets and neighborhoods of Syracuse. Event is co-chaired by Arnie Artessa, David Philippone and Bob Dougherty. Registration cost is $25 per person.

Duck Race to End Racism

The 15th Annual Duck Race to End Racism is a free family festival that brings together people from all over the community. It features a huge line-up of children’s entertainment, cooperative games, face painting, community information booths and duck races galore. It is a celebration with people of many colors, many different backgrounds and many different walks of life coming together to demonstrate what the world would look like if racism did not exist. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $5 each to participate in the general public Community Duck Race featuring many prizes and gifts.
