Apples are fun for more than just eating. Visitors to the library will be making apple volcanoes, boats, towers and more. Plus, the group will finish by making apple pie playdough to take home. For ages 6 – 12.

The 26th annual Westcott Street Cultural Fair will begin at noon Sunday, Sept. 17, on Westcott Street between Concord and Dell streets. The fair is an annual, one-day celebration of the diversity and uniqueness of the Westcott neighborhood through its culture, visual and performing arts, food, service organizations and family-friendly activities. NBLCA of Syracuse will observe National HIV/AIDS Awareness Day for the Aging from noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 18, at Syracuse Community Connections in Clovers Corners for Seniors.

To mark the 10th Annual Falls Prevention Awareness Day, a special event will be held Sept. 22, on the first day of fall. This year’s theme is “Ten Years Standing Together to Prevent Falls.” This free event seeks to raise awareness on how to prevent fall-related injuries among older adults. From 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. seniors, age 60 and older, are welcome to participate in: Falls Education, Strength & Balance Screening, A Strength & Balance Exercise Class and enjoy lunch. Join The Salvation Army as they throw the ultimate end-of-summer block party fully equipped with a barbecue, lawn games, music and prize drawings. Special guest appearances by Eric Devendorf and other former members of The Syracuse Basketball team. The event is held to help raise awareness and funds to cut down on child hunger in Syracuse. The National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS, Inc. of Syracuse will host a lunch and learn at the South Side Innovation Center.

Come participate in a creative writing workshop where you will learn the basics of storytelling and create a short story of your own. The stories will be collected into a bound volume and added to the library collection for others to enjoy. Refreshments will be provided. For ages 8 - 15.

The Teen Advisory Board is a group that helps plan programs and make the Central Library a great place for teens to hang out. New members always welcome; no registration necessary. Ages 12 -18. TAB meets at Central’s first-floor TeenSpace.
