ACTS Offers Alternatives to Violence Training

The Alliance of Communities Transforming Syracuse will offer Alternatives to Violence Training for free from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, July, 14, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 15, and conclude from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 16, followed by a celebration dinner. The sessions will be held at the Dunbar Center, located at 1453 S. State St.  Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) is a life-changing training program which teaches participants to transform conflict through methods of non-violence. The training program is for both youth and adults. There is no cost to attend, and meals will be provided during each day of the training. Participants in this initial training session will be instrumental in shaping the future of AVP in Syracuse. Registration is already underway and is limited to no more than 20 to 25 persons. Participants must attend all three sessions to receive the AVP certification, as they build on each other.

Once you understand how something works, you can use it to explore new ideas and create new things. In this program, attendees will build some common machines using simplified parts and find out how people get energy from the wind, sun, water and the world around us.

How CNY Works Forum

The monthly F.O.C.U.S. Forum, held the third Friday each month from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. at Syracuse City Hall Commons, features an expert that will present a topic pertinent to the CNY community with an opportunity for questions and answers from the audience. This forum will look at how CNY has made a shift to a knowledge economy from big manufacturing, examining the gaps in skilled labor, employment and community this left. A discussion about the Future of Work with Darco Mfg. talent manager and study co-chair Melissa Menon and Michael Melara, director of Catholic Charities in Onondaga County, will be held July 21st. All are welcome.
