A movie will be screened Friday, July 21, at Ward Park. Bring the entire family and friends. Movie begins at dusk so make sure to bring lawn chair and or blanket. Mosquito repellent recommended. Event hosted by Syracuse Salt of the Earth Ministries, which will give out free popcorn and Bibles.
The Stand's Eighth annual South Side Photo Walk will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 22. Participants will meet at the South Side Innovation Center, 2610 S. Salina St., where the event will open with a photo lesson by professional photographers Kate Collins, who is a photo and video manager at syracuse.com, and Marilu Lopez Fretts, who is a freelance and multimedia photographer (mlfphotography.com). After the walk, all participants will share their photos, and the best shots will be published in the September print issue of The Stand. This event is free and open to all ages of any skill level. 100 Black Men of Syracuse, Inc. in collaboration with Black Nurses Rock of Syracuse to host the 2017 Health and Wellness Lecture Series. The July lecture will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, July 24, at the South Side Innovation Center. The topic will be "Mental Health and the Black Community." In Destination: INSPIRATION, kids don't just WATCH the show – they JOIN IN! Children take part in a madcap, interACTIVE adventure in which they create characters, choose settings and steer the plot. Award-winning author Jason Edwards guides the production and acts out the story, while supplying loads of prompts, hints, encouragement, funny props and slapstick humor. No registration required; all ages welcome. This program will meet in the first-floor Community Room.
