A neighborhood block party for all in Syracuse will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at the back parking lot/lawn area of Dunk & Bright Furniture. The event will include members of the Health Department who will conduct on-site lead testing.
The Lafayette Community Band will perform its annual concert for attendees to enjoy a night of live music and support two community organizations. There will be free refreshments in the Fellowship Hall after the performance. Suggested donation: $2; all donations will be presented to Lafayette Outreach (a food pantry). Mothers Against Gun Violence will host a candlelight vigil from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, in Clinton Square. Ed Mitchell Jr from Team Angel will be the event's MC; Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens will serve as keynote speaker. The evening will also include performances by the Elks Drumline, Makayla Goers, Mobetta, Truth Speaker and Zachary Jones.
The world of reading comes alive with this fun and educational program that will bring attendees face-to-face with exciting zoo animals. Get hands-on with the zoo’s one-of-a-kind animal artifacts. Summer readers have read and learned so much all summer long. The library wants to say Congrats! All young readers are invited to relax and celebrate with a party. Library staff will hand out certificates, serve refreshments and raffle-off prizes.
