"How the Children Got the Sun Up in the Sky & Other Stories from Around the World” is a collection of stories that celebrates children and the things that are important their lives: Family, friends, the environment and more. Join LuAnn Adams and travel around the world in stories and meet children from Africa, India and other locations. Sankofa Food Share

Cafe Sankofa 2323 S. Salina St., Syracuse, NY, United States

The Sankofa Wellness and Resource Center presents a bi-weekly food share on Wednesdays. The center will provide dry goods (rice, beans etc.) and fresh produce. Items are set up for Grab N Go, and organizers will be utilizing social distancing guidelines to provide the food items. Photo ID is preferred. Pre-registration is not required. 2020 Summer Photo Contest Winners Announced

Wednesday, Aug. 19, organizers of The Stand's 2020 Photo Contest will reveal judges’ top picks in all five categories. The BIG reveal will begin at 6:30 p.m. over Zoom and live-streamed on The Stand’s Facebook Page. Email ashley@mysouthsidestand.com to receive the link to join on Zoom and hear directly from judges. A selection of the top three images in each of the five categories will be shown.

Postponed: McKinley Park 100th Anniversary Recognition

The Syracuse Parks Department will hold a ceremony in McKinley Park Aug. 20 in recognition of 100 years. Attendance will be limited in accordance to following COVID-19 health guidelines. Race Matters Book Club

“Jay-Z – Made in America” by Michael Eric Dyson is the next book in ACTS (Alliance of Communities Transforming Syracuse) Race Matters Book Club session scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24.

Henry Louis Gates calls this small volume “A poignant portrait of one of hip hops’ most intriguing figures. A TOUR DE FORCE.”  If you haven’t explored the world of music & poetry buried in hip hop, and its key purveyor, here’s your chance. As a sociology professor and public intellectual, Michael Eric Dyson is the perfect person to unravel its mysteries.  

ACTS' interfaith discussion group is open to all, and you may choose to participate only once or every month. Images will be on view downtown at UVP's outdoor architectural projection site on the facade of the Everson Museum of Art at 401 Harrison Street from dusk until 11 p.m.
