Zoo

Seatings begin at 9, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19. Tickets include admission to tour the Syracuse Zoo. Cost is $21.95 adults and $9.95 youth aged 3-12 for Zoo members; non-member tickets are $24.95 adults and $12.95 youth. Children 2 and under are free. Food Bag Distribution

Salt City Market JAMS

Syracuse Joined Artists, Musicians and Singers (JAMS) will host live musical entertainment on Wednesday evenings during the month of December at Salt City Market. These performances are sponsored in part by a small grant from CNY Arts. On Dec. 29, Sam Wynn and Mike Serafim will perform.

SMTC Certification Review Public Roundtable

A one-hour long Stakeholder and Public Roundtable will be held virtually at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, via Zoom, to discuss the Syracuse Metropolitan Transportation Council's implementation of the federal transportation planning process with its partners from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).

2022 State of the City Address

Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh will deliver the 2022 State of the City at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, from the soon-to-open JMA Wireless technology manufacturing plant located on Syracuse’s South Side. The new facility is a central element of Walsh’s Syracuse Surge strategy for inclusive growth in the New Economy. For COVID-19 safety, the address will be open to a limited in-person audience by invitation. It will be broadcast on WCNY Public Broadcasting Channel 24.

Virtual Info Session on Political Leadership Training

The Central New York Political Leadership Institute will launch its 13th annual eight-week program to train individuals how to navigate the political process with a free, virtual information session from 5 to 6 p.m. Jan. 25. The training sessions cover campaign organization and operations, how to get on the ballot, messaging, working with the media, campaign finance, fundraising and how to get out the vote.

Lead Convening Event

In this virtual session, the Central New York Community Foundation will build upon the discussion from its 2019 “Lead Poisoning in CNY” event. Precious time has passed for families who are enduring lead poisoning and now, with the addition of the pandemic, many government, medical and nonprofit organizations are still preoccupied with COVID-19. With two panels featuring government, medical and neighborhood experts, the session will cover the progress that has been made in medical testing and code enforcement, as well as the challenges Central New York may face moving forward.

Syracuse Onondaga NAACP Virtual Community Education Forum

The Syracuse Onondaga County NAACP Education Committee will host a Virtual Community Education Town Hall to discuss critical obstacles that prevent students from receiving a quality education. Topics to be discussed will include: COVID 19, remote learning vs. in-class instruction, trauma, culturally responsive teaching in addition to proficiency rates and graduation trends.
