The Stand
The Stand’s Third annual Photo Walk opened with a photo lesson taught by staff photographer for The Syracuse Post-Standard Mike Greenlar, who volunteered his time to provide pointers and guidance throughout the day’s event held Saturday, July 21, at the South Side Innovation Center.
Greenlar, who has worked at The Post-Standard for more than a decade and taken photos all around the world, said some of the best shots can be captured close to home.
“Even after all my travels,” Greenlar says, “I have to admit the best pictures are still near my home.”
The walk welcomed eight photographers of various skill levels. Photos they chose to share can be seen here.
Their work will also be published and shared in the upcoming September print issue set to hit newsstands Sept. 1.
The walk took photographers down South Salina Street, through neighborhoods to Kirk Park and back to the center.
While on the walk, photographers came across the Race Against Obesity being held at Kirk Park and organized by Common Councilor Khalid Bey.
The walk/race had been organized to bring awareness to and start to combat the obesity epidemic plaguing African-Americans.
