Home Maintenance Program to Start

Tonight, Jubilee Homes will hold the fall session of its Home Maintenance and Repair program.  The free program is the third and final one of this year.

“The main purpose is to teach current and potential home owners how to make repairs to their house,” said Desaree Dixie, Jubilee Homes’ housing director.

The five-week program seeks to give home owners all the information they need to keep their house in good shape, including what they can do themselves, how to finance repairs, negotiating with contractors and taking out insurance.

“We want people to get the sense that they can do things themselves and save a lot of money,” Dixie said.

Each of the five classes will focus on helping people get their houses prepared for the winter.  Subjects like insulation and how to save energy while staying warm will be addressed.  The last lesson will be based on questions submitted by the class.

Besides learning invaluable skills, the people who complete the class also receive a certificate and a tool kit or gift certificate from Lowes.

The sponsors for the program are the Department of Housing & Community Renewal, M&T Bank and the Syracuse City School District.
