Ma'Dears Salon Offers Clients More Than Just Beauty

Jacqueline Emery, owner of Ma’ Dears Salon, is eager to share her love of nurturing her clients’ hair and souls.

“It was a growing passion, a hidden passion I’d say … It just grew on me. I went to school and fell in love with it,” Emery recalled, concerning her 18-year career.

Emery purchased Ma’ Dears, located at 1905 South Ave., five years ago and believes God placed her in the location to make a difference in her community.

“When I was saved and transformed and started ministering to the ladies about inner beauty, I saw the difference. I see that more young ladies have gone on the college when some said they couldn’t. This is their support system,” Emery said. “Some call and say ‘I can’t do it’ when they get there but we tell them ‘yes you can.’”

Emery also places a high value on self-maintenance and plans to start a mentoring program so that men and women will know how to care for their hair and skin without relying on a salon.

“It’s very important, nurturing the hair and the soul. It brings balance your life,” Emery said.
