The Stand will host a free Full-Day Multimedia Workshop using the program Soundslides. The program can be downloaded online for free and is used by top newspapers to create multimedia presentations combining sound recordings and photos.
Attendees will be taught by instructor Stephen Mahan on how to utilize this program and create their own presentation. Mahan runs the Photography and Literacy Project (PAL Project), which is for local students to explore their world through photography, video and sound to promote critical thinking skills, writing, visual literacy and self-esteem.
This workshop will begin with a short class session to explain the program, then attendees will venture out into the South Side Community to collect photos and a short recorded interview.
After a lunch break, attendees will return to the South Side Innovation Center to compile their slide show. Students in Syracuse University’s Urban Affairs Reporting class will be on hand the entire day to serve as mentors and help answer questions.
The workshop is free and open to all — any age or skill level is welcome. All equipment is provided, but is limited to 10 attendees. The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at the South Side Innovation Center, 2610 S. Salina St., Syracuse.
