Engaging Urban Communities

La Casita will host an open dialogue on engaging and supporting urban Syracuse communities, the challenges during and after pandemic-related shutdowns and new strategies.
A cohort of panelists will reflect on the experiences, inadequacies and successes of various community engagement initiatives as programs reopened to the public. The panel will be moderated by Tere Paniagua and will include: Bea Gonzalez, community organizer and former VP of Community Engagement at Syracuse University; Fanny Villarreal, executive director at the YWCA; Elisa Morales, executive director of the Spanish Action League; Emma Ticio, chair of the Department of Languages, Literatures & Linguistics at SU; Brice Nordquist, Arts & Sciences Dean’s Professor of Community Engagement at SU; Zachary Pearson, MSW candidate at SU’s School of Social Work, and Lizmarie Montemayor, Engaged Humanities SOURCE undergraduate researcher at SU.
