Q&A with Band JustUs

JustUs, a local Syracuse band, performed June 16 at the Juneteenth Ancestral Recognition Celebration held in the City Hall Atrium. The Stand’s Community Correspondent Brenda Muhammad sat down with group members to learn more about them and their future plans.

Q. Who are the members of JustUs?

A. There are several:

KaShaun Burks – manager

Will “Shamegga” Baldwin – lead & keyboards

BJ June – lead

David Cypha

Darrell Brown – drums

Louto LaGuerre – bass

Wayne “The Rhythm” – percussion

Pearl Baldwin – vocalist

Q. How long has your band been together?

A. As a group, we have been together three months.  BJ & Will have been together since 1998.

Q. How would you describe your music?

A. We write our own songs, and we wanted a smooth sound. R&B is falling off, and we are trying to bring that “Grown Folk Thang” back.  A CD will be coming out with the live songs we performed at the Juneteenth Ancestral Recognition Celebration held June 16.  We call it “Grown Folks Thang,” which is a track on our upcoming CD.

Q. Where can readers find your upcoming CD or download your music?

A.  Our music is available on CD baby, iTunes and Rhapsody.  You can contact us by phone at (315) 941-2416 or by email at j.u.musicgroup@gmail.com.

Q. How can we find out about any upcoming events?

A. Check out www.reverbnation.com for upcoming events.  We are scheduled to perform at the New York State Fair and are accepting booking dates.
