Price Rite South Avenue Location Preparing to Open

Chain has nearly 100 jobs to fill

The Price Rite Supermarkets announced Feb. 21 that it is accepting job applications for its 35,000-square-foot South Avenue location.

The supermarket chain, known for its everyday low prices, is scheduled to open in April and is looking to hire nearly 100 employees for positions including cashiers, stocking clerks, produce, deli and meat department team members and supervisory roles.

Interested candidates are encouraged to apply online by clicking HERE, choosing “apply today” and selecting Syracuse, NY from the dropdown menu, then Price Rite of South Ave., to view and fill out an online employment application.

Price Rite is seeking applicants to provide customers with friendly, efficient service and previous supermarket or other retail experience is preferred, but not required.

Price Rite has been working closely with Jubilee Homes of Syracuse Inc., a local nonprofit, along with  city, county and state officials to bring the new store to an area previously designated as a food desert. A groundbreaking ceremony was held June 17 with several political and community leaders. The site at 611 South Ave. had previously been home to a Loblaws supermarket, which closed in 1970.

During the ground breaking, Neil Duffy, president of PriceRite, described how the chain has a history of going into long-closed grocery stores and revamping them for communities in need.

“We will not only bring in fresh produce and meats, but will bring jobs; 100 to 125 jobs,” Duffy added.
