Photo Contest Deadline Fast Approaching

Enter your photos capturing Syracuse in the time of COVID by July 31

This July, The Stand is holding a citywide Photo Contest rather than its annual Photo Walk.

This allows Syracuse’s South Side community newspaper to continue to document the neighborhood in photos and expand to collect images of all pockets of Syracuse during both the time of a worldwide pandemic but also while many of our nation’s citizens are calling for social justice.

We’re looking for pictures that represent everyday life during our new normal. Photos showcasing responses, actions and activities developed under the context of COVID-19. Capturing childhood and sibling connection during this difficult time as well as childhood joy that remains. The time in quarantine, spent observing through one’s window. Friendships continuing despite social distancing and masks. Messages of hope spread on windows, lawns and local businesses.

Nearly two dozen have so far entered, but there’s still time. So don’t miss your opportunity!

Images will be accepted through July 31. Participants may enter photos in any of our five categories and a panel of local judges will pick top winners – plus there will be prizes!

First place in each category receive a complimentary Light Work lab membership and subscription to its publication, Contact Sheet, a $190 value. Second place winners will receives $50 in ‘market money’ to spend at any of the soon-to-open food stalls of Salt City Market, and third place wins $25 gift certificate to Joe’s to Go. Additionally, we have Stand T-shirts and more to giveaway as well.

So don’t delay – Enter TODAY!

Final images will be shared with the community online, featured in The Stand’s September print issue and exhibited downtown, projected onto the Everson Museum of Art, thanks to a partnership with the Urban Video Project (UVP).

To enter and be considered for prizes, photographers must follow recommended health guidelines, submit photos taken only in the city of Syracuse during the month of July and enter images online using The Stand’s entry form. If you have any trouble using the form, you may email The Director of The Stand Ashley Kang at ashley@mysouthsidestand.com.
