South Side Newspaper Project Reflects on Five Years
The South Side Newspaper Project held its five-year anniversary party for The Stand newspaper Saturday, March 21, at the South Side Innovation Center.
The event welcomed Keynote Speaker Sean Kirst, an award-winning columnist for Syracuse Media Group and a Stand reader.
Kirst spoke about the importance of community journalism and on how The Stand has been there to tell countless stories from the South Side neighborhood. “Every child is a story; every story is a treasure,” he said.
During the event, The Stand also received a proclamation from Sen. David Valesky’s office. Craig Wilson, community liaison for Sen. Valesky, read and presented the proclamation.
Also, a video produced by ITC media student Vernon Macklin featuring each of The Stand’s board members debuted.
The paper published its first print issue of The Stand in March of 2010.
