Rewriting History Virtual Talk & Discussion Panel via Zoom

November 12, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Fabiola Jean-Louis and catalog writers Dr. Tanisha Jackson, Yvonne Buchanan and Shana Gelin join to discuss Jean-Louis’s exhibition “Rewriting History.” Jean-Louis’ body of work addresses complicated layers of self-awareness and what makes up the historical truths we have been taught to accept about race and the roles of women, both past and present. She questions and thereby magnifies the injustice of the foundational structure of our society while implicitly asking the viewer to make a change. In this way, Rewriting History engages with a vision of the future – one of resilience and justice.

This program is possible thanks to the support of the College of Arts & Sciences, the Office of Cultural Engagement for the Hispanic Community and the Coalition of Museum and Art Centers (CMAC) at Syracuse University, and is part of Syracuse University’s Humanities Center 2020-2021 Symposium ‘Futures’.
