LKM Names 2012 Youth Achievement Awardees

Xi Chapter of Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority, an organization of graduate business and professional women, established in Syracuse since 1955, hosted its 43rd annual Youth Achievement Luncheon in conjunction with Syracuse Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Drumlins Country Club.

Xi Chapter gave the following awards:

Scholarship Chairperson Mrs. Eva Williams with 2012 Carolyn Tyler Memorial Awardee Edwina Kisanga of Cicero-North Syracuse High School. She will be attending Yale University in the fall majoring in Chemistry.

The Carolyn Tyler Memorial Award is a $2,000 award given over four years to a graduating African-American female high school student.

Achievement Awards to high school juniors or seniors in the areas of Art (fine art or performing), Science/Math, Sports and Community Service from either a city or a county high school

The Syracuse Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi presented to awards to Uriel Clayton of Nottingham and Michael Jennings of The Institute of Technology at Central School in memory of Brothers M. Gilbert Kirkland and Merle R. Greene. Both students will be attending Syracuse University in the fall.

Xi Chapter of Lambda Kappa Mu recognizes the achievement of middle school students in the Syracuse City School District each year. Incentive Awards are given to an outstanding female and an outstanding male from the middle and K-8 schools. Students from Huntington, Danforth, Edward Smith, Lincoln and Frazier are pictured.
