Workshop for Mothers

I just learned about a unique event being offered by Mothers Offering Youth Opportunity (MOYO): A set of six workshops geared for mothers. The flier says it is to “Help mothers to care for themselves so they can care for their children.”

All meetings are scheduled to be held at the Beauchamp Library from 1 to 3 p.m. every Saturday from Oct. 17 to Nov. 21 in the Sankofa Room. Snacks and light refreshments will be served.

Space is limited, so all are encouraged to pre-registrater.

Oct. 17: “Unheard”– A mother’s side of the story

Oct. 24: “Taking care of ourselves” – A mother’s guide to finding inner peace

Oct. 31: “Where the hell is dad?” – A mother’s struggle to deal with childrearing unsupported

Nov. 7: “Enough is enough!” – When giving up is the only option

Nov. 14: “What’s happening to our kids?” – A discussion about how our stuff becomes their stuff

Nov. 21: “Help me help my children.” – A mother’s opportunity to empower herself by utilizing and/or accessing community resources

Also, the series will include a book club for the book “Push” by Sapphire, the focus of an upcoming movie, “Precious.” The book discussion will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Nov. 9, at the Mary Nelson Youth Center.
