Professional Photographer Mike Greenlar to Share Expert Tips & Lead Walk
The Stand’s Third annual Photo Walk will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 21, at the South Side Innovation Center, 2610 S. Salina St. (across from Dunk & Bright). The day’s event will open with a photo lesson taught by staff photographer for The Syracuse Post-Standard Mike Greenlar, who will give pointers and provide guidance throughout the walk.
Greenlar has worked at The Post-Standard for more than a decade and documented in photos the charcoal industry in Haiti, apartheid in South Africa, a three-generation traditional Algonquin family in the Canadian bush and most recently post-war Laos.
“Even after all my travels,” Greenlar says, “I have to admit the best pictures are still near my home.”
The walk is open to photographers of all ages at any level. A limited number of cameras will be available to borrow. To RSVP or reserve a camera, contact The Stand’s Director Ashley Kang at ashley@mysouthsidestand.com or (315) 882-1054.
The walk will take photographers down South Salina Street, through neighborhoods to Kirk Park and back to the center. Water will be provided, but if attendees want lunch, they will need to purchase on their own. The event will conclude with a photo review, and the best shots will be published in the September print issue of The Stand.
