The 12th annual School Supply Giveaway by Mary Nelson will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17.
The Mary Nelson’s Youth Day Foundation has come a long way since 2002 when more than 850 children in need were given backpacks, school supplies and other items to help them start the year off right. Each year, the number of children receiving supplies increases – along with items donated by community partners. At last year’s event, more than 26,000 youth and their families attended.
With the event growing in record numbers each and every year, organizers are in need of Sponsorships & Donations to make the event a success. If you or your company is interested in participating, local agencies are welcome to set up a free booth to educate residents and youth on your services. Also this year’s youth parade will kick off the event and participants are sought to be a part of this opening event.
The event will be held at the corner of South Salina Street and Wood Avenue. The mission is to help children from preschool to college get needed school supplies. A backpack filled with school supplies will be given to each registered child that attends the event. All students must also bring a copy of their June Report Card to sign in. Additional items needed for school will also be given out.
And as always, there will be food and entertainment throughout the day.
