December 2009 — Photography with Jeffrey Chapman
The Stand welcomed Jeffrey Chapman, a freelance cultural, humanitarian and world photographer, during December’s Journalism Workshops held 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 12, and 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, at the South Side Innovation Center. During these two months, community correspondents are trained in news writing and interviewing skills
by Prof. Steve Davis.
June 2011 — Community Correspondents Cover Juneteenth
Coverage of the 2011 Juneteenth Festival in Clinton Square held Saturday, June 18, was conducted by a Team of The Stand’s Community Correspondents
Reporters included: Ruthnie Angrand, Miguel Balbuena, Jeremiah Howell, Katherine Hills and her mother, Cheryl Dixon-Hills, who was so inspired by the day’s celebration she contributed a personal reflection.
Also contributing was Brenda Muhammad who wrote a piece on the Ancestral Recognition Celebration held June 16 and who collected several Q&As from the June 18 event with Newhouse reporter Durrie Bouscaren.
July 2011 — The Stand’s Second annual Photo Walk
The walk took photographers down South Salina Street, through neighborhoods to Kirk Park and back. Following the walk, photographers shared their photos with the group.
August 2011 — Workshop held for Community Correspondents
Gina Chen returns to speak to The Stand’s community correspondents to perfect their interviewing techniques.
September 2011 — Community Correspondents cover A-OK! Weekend
The A-OK! Acts of Kindness Weekend volunteer efforts held Sept. 10 & 11 throughout Syracuse’s South Side were covered by a group of The Stand’s Community Correspondents including The Kirk Park Clean Up by Ruthnie Angrand, Vickie Patterson & Laura Finkbeiner; the Stone Soup Garden by Miguel Balbuena, and the Veteran Build by Rasheeda Alford.

A Haiku Poetry Workshop presented by the Syracuse Poster Project was offered Saturday, March 3, 2012 by Herm Card at the South Side Communication Center.
April 2012 — Behind the Scenes of The Stand
Staff reporters with The Stand shared how they developed their story ideas
and the process taken to put together an article for the print issue in this unique workshop
where community residents go Behind the Scenes of The Stand.
