Our Winter print issue features a photo spread from the 2013 Onondaga City Scholastic Chess Championship. The event brought together parents and children from schools throughout Syracuse and as far away as Buffalo.

Green Party gains support, pushes alternative third-party platform
Even if they failed to capture decisive political ground in the November elections, local Green Party politicians are pledging to push for issues such as job creation that they say will help the South Side.
“During the upcoming year, one way or another, we’re going to make the governor and the state government squirm, because they have not provided the policies that were promised, and that is why we are in a financial crisis,” said Howie Hawkins, the Green Party contender for the 4th District Common Council.
The Mary Nelson Youth Center’s annual Christmas party includes Christmas decorations, food, a present for the children, games for the entire family and each family will be able to leave with a gift basket of items prepared by Mary Nelson.
The festivities start at 4 p.m. Dec. 21 at the center, located at 2849 S. Salina St., and the doors are open to anyone and everyone who wants to attend.
