The Stand Joins Writing Workshop

Ashley Hanry, director of The Stand, will present two journalism sessions during the free community writing event to be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Dunbar Community Center, 1453 South State St., Syracuse.

We have learned that a number of high school students are interested in journalism. So we’re going to offer our earlier Journalism 101 Workshop on journalistic writing and interviewing skills for all interested students.

The conference will have two workshop slots reserved for us: 10 to 10:50 a.m. and 11 to 11:50 a.m.

Registrations begins at 9:30 a.m.

Other writing workshop topics will include:

  • Claiming one’s writer’s voice
  • Organizing One’s Writing
  • Writing for multiple purposes and audiences
  • Writing the college essay
  • The Power of Language in Writing
  • Spoken Word Poetry
  • Telling Your Story
  • Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling

More updates about the workshop will be shared soon. To learn more about how to participate in the workshop, e-mail mhaddix@syr.edu.
